Brooklyn’s West Indian Day Parade Leftovers

There are over 47 parades every year in New York City, and while the festivities are exciting, they leave an extraordinary amount of trash behind. Much of it is not recycled.

The West Indian Day Parade on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, New York alone accounts for 200 tons of trash. Even though Prospect Heights residents and parade goers enjoy the festivities, they’re bothered by the overflowing garbage bags and the laziness of those who can’t be bothered to aim for the trash can.

But every year, the NYC Department of Sanitation performs some kind of miracle….
